Ep.151_So Good They Can't Ignore You_Cal Newport

Welcome back to the podcast.  Today, the feature book is 'So Good They Can't Ignore You' by author Cal Newport.

In this eye-opening book, Cal Newport challenges the popular advice to "follow your passion." He argues that this cliché is actually flawed and can even be dangerous. The truth is, pre-existing passions are quite rare, and have little to do with how most people end up loving their work. In fact, this advice can lead to anxiety and chronic job-hopping as people struggle to find that elusive "dream job." Instead of chasing passions, Newport sets out to uncover the real strategies used by people who genuinely love what they do.

What he discovers is that passion isn't something that comes first, but rather something that develops over time through deliberate effort and skill-building. The key, Newport reveals, is to focus on becoming "so good they can't ignore you." It's not about finding the perfect job that matches your pre-existing interests, but rather about honing valuable skills and crafting a compelling career, no matter what you do for a living.

I hope you enjoy today's insights and if you love Cal's work, please check out episode 43 of the podcast where I featured another of his great books - Deep Work.

Enjoy!
