Ep. 18_Are you the Carrot, the Egg, or the Coffee Bean?_Damon West
Welcome to today's Philosopher Byte, where I share an insight from Damon West who I only learned about after listening to Ed Mylett's podcast. His story is incredibly inspiring and after listening to his thoughts, I found this clip where he shares the story of the Carrot, the Egg, and the Coffee Bean.
Consider how differently carrots, eggs, and ground coffee beans are affected by the extreme adversity of being boiled. It's a great analogy for life. I have become a huge fan of resilience, overcoming obstacles, and anti-fragility and this analogy was a perfect example of these concepts.
Although we have no control over the things that happen to us, we do have a lot of control over how we respond and, consequently, what occurs inside of us. Get out of the boiling water as soon as you can if you want to transform your hardships into an advantage. Don't linger on adversity. Be sad, but continue. Don't let bad luck or the obstacles you face define your life.
You can watch Damon West's entire clip on Youtube, the video is titled: The Coffee Bean by: Jon Gordan and Damon West - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWszGs3v6U0
