Hi and welcome to Philosopher Insights. My name is Herb Lamba. Today I wanted to talk about another productivity hack from 'Organize Tomorrow Today'. In one of my previous videos, I shared 'Attack the Open Space'.
Now I want to share my favorite productivity hack from this book. It's called 'Win Your Fight Thru's. 'Win Your Fight Thru's'.
A fight thru is "I can do this! " - quickly becomes, "Oh, that's a little bit harder than I thought."
How do we deal with that internal conflict that we're having when we know what we're supposed to do, but we're in this fight thru. I want to share three ways you can battle that internal conversation.
So the first one is to ritualize and I love habits. I'm really big on developing better habits because the stuff that's really, really important, we need to find a way to make it a habit to avoid having to win or lose the fight thru.
We don't want it to be a question of whether I should do it or I shouldn't do it. It's automated, it's already part of my process, so that's an important step in the ones that are really critical to your success.
The second is to recognize. We need to recognize when we're in a fight thru. Just being aware that I'm in a fight thru.
So, for example, I scheduled a blog post that I'm supposed to write for the next 30 minutes, but now I'm in a fight thru. I'm having that internal dialogue with myself that I know I'm supposed to write the blog post, but I think I'd rather watch television because the blog post is gonna take a lot of thinking. It's a little bit harder. Let me just put that blog post off for tomorrow.
That is a fight thru.
And I find the best way to deal with that fight thru is to ask yourself two questions when this happens.
One - How would I feel if I won this fight thru?
Second question - How would I feel if I lost this fight thru?
Once you answer those two questions, it's very motivating to take the action that you promised yourself, that you committed yourself to take. As I shared in my slight edge video, this comes down to trust. If you stop trusting yourself and if you keep losing your fight thru's, you're gonna keep losing trust with yourself.
And the third way is to 'life project'. Give it some serious thought. What would happen in 3 to 5 years, if every time you encountered that fight thru, that internal dialogue about doing what you should do versus doing something else, you won your fight thru's?
For 3 to 5 years straight, you won your fight thru's. How much better could you be? Financially? Family-wise? Health-wise?
It doesn't matter what you apply it to. If you think about that, it's very motivating to think, I have to learn how to win these fight thru's.
